How famed submarine will help unlock the causes of deep sea warming

Alberto wrote a piece for the Conversation while we were on the RRS James Clark Ross, crossing Drake Passage towards the Weddell Sea.

It has a bit about the project Dynopo (Dynamics of the Orkney Passage Outflow), and also about the Autosub Long Range (ALR). These vehicles have been in development for a while, but after the internet poll to name the new polar research vessel came up with a top naming choice of “Boaty McBoatface”, the ALRs got renamed Boaty McBoatface.
